Biography

The journey of Matt Lazarus as a guitarist began with hearing Jimi Hendrix, Traffic, and John McLaughlin. Matt picked up a guitar at age 14 and never put it down again. He played and wrote songs and committed to music for his life.

With his beloved '78 left-handed Stratocaster, Matt traveled north to Humboldt State, where he received a B.A. in Music and formed the rock group Joint Chiefs. They soon became local Arcata legends and performed on the local scene for many years.

The more Matt played, the more influences - Grateful Dead, Santana, Jeff Beck, and Neil Young - changed and evolved his guitar style, which took center stage at the Joint Chiefs performances.

Matt continued evolving his eclectic style in Santa Cruz, California, where he founded Motorhome, a short-lived but much-loved rock band.

The next big step in Matt's journey was joining the Gluey Brothers as lead guitarist. Known for their quirky performances, the Gluey Brothers toured extensively in the United States and appeared memorably on television and in films.

Presently, Matt is in the group SPQ playing mostly jazz and funk originals. He's particularly proud of SPQ's accomplished musicality.

Matt has recorded and produced complete soundtracks for two movies, "Voyeur Confessions" and "The Exhibitionist Files" and has his music in the movie "Word of Mouth" as well. He is proud to announce the release of his latest CD, Making Boats, which features his exceptional songwriting, singing, and acoustic guitar work.
